What were the temporary obstructions preventing me from writing?
What were the temporary obstructions preventing me from writing? Is it the “dislikes” on social platforms such as Facebook, Linked In? Was it placing value of what others thought of me? There were so many undesirable comments over the span of 3 years. Criticism from people that felt offended by my thoughts…my thoughts. So, what I did was ran into my cave…my cave. I found a cave, named it “my” and claimed it as my abode. I shall not berate myself for running away from me, and the opinions of others.
Life is a process of self-discovery. The bittersweet gifts of negative comments are no more than a test for the testimony.
On the other hand, there are inspiring messages of hope presented to me by great people offering me constructive feedback.
Lessons about their experiences, how they overcame the sting of comments as well as contrived publicity from others. These unhelpful judgments from people whom I’ve never met and do not know me from Eve… (Adam and Eve).
However, there were and are constructive and helpful comments from men and women whom I have met and may not ever meet. These comments are the engine which declares: keep focused, do not allow the opinions of some to define my reality, go ahead and write, we all have a dry spell, believe in yourself.
I remember this one time I posted something on Facebook, a Reverend, Woman of God( WOG) read it and responded with “I am going to unfriend you. I never thought you felt this way.” I’ve never met the woman, never heard of her before the posting. I have no emotional or mental investment at all with her, yet I gave her power. It took me this long to accept this Truth which is although I have done nothing intentionally to hurt anyone, we will not hear the same music.
We are entitled to… no wait... it is required of us to present our truth in a dignified and non-threatening manner. I regard my contributions as I am not only helping myself, but I may be helping at least one person. I am told by successful people “Rev Barbara you will need to have a thick skin if you plan on being the success that you are meant to be”. So, expect more “thoughts in writing” from me. No more hiding behind the curtain. I thank the group for giving me the encouragement to stop hiding behind the curtain.
